What Questions Can We Help You With?

200 HOUR YOGA Teacher trainings FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions about our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Trainings

Will I be accepted into the Santosha Yoga Teacher Training?

Yes, we believe that all people are deserving of changing their lives! Subsequently, the only prerequisite to the Yoga Teacher Training is a sincere desire in your heart to change not only your life but the lives of others. If you are ready to dedicate yourself with an open heart and mind to study and practice during your yoga training, we would love to have you join us – online or in-person in Bali, Byron Bay or Sri Lanka.

What style of Yoga do Santosha teach?

At Santosha we teach an authentic ‘vini’ flow style of yoga, which connects Hatha yoga postures in short, flowing Vinyasa sequences. This draws on the Sri T. Krishnamacharya lineage, a therapeutic and holistic approach to yoga teaching which creates healing and wellbeing in mind, body, and breath. On our Yoga Teacher Training you will build a strong foundation for your practice, and learn how to teach yoga safely and effectively. Our founder Sunny and many of our teachers have trained directly from disciples of Sri T. Krishnamacharya in India, so that you can rest assured you’re sharing authentic wisdom passed down by yogis for thousands of years.

I want to be a yoga teacher – is this course for me?

Yes, this is the one for you! The Santosha 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training is a Yoga Alliance / Yoga Alliance International certified 200 Hour Yoga Teacher training – meaning you will learn the skills to gain your certification and register as a RYT-200 Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance or Yoga Alliance International immediately upon graduation from your online or in-person studies – qualifying you to teach in gyms and studios worldwide.

I don’t want to be a yoga teacher – is this course for me?

Santosha Yoga Teacher Training courses are much more than just teacher trainings; they are a chance to personally transform and grow. Even if yoga teaching is not your goal, this yoga course will help you deepen your yoga practice, share a unique transformational experience and be supported by open-hearted teachers and friends. If you want to transform your mind, body, and life then this yoga course is for you!

When will I be ready to teach Yoga?

You will be ready to teach straight away once you graduate, having gained the skills, knowledge and confidence to sequence and lead yoga classes with ease! Many of our yoga teacher training graduates are teaching yoga online and in person all around the world. Every yoga instructor is always a student at heart who will continue to learn and develop both their yoga teaching and practice for life.

I am fairly new to yoga. Will i be able to attend the yoga teacher training?

We welcome everyone with a curiosity and interest in yoga to join us for this incredible yoga experience. As our yoga training is not purely focused on asana (physical postures) it does not matter if you do not have a long history of yoga practice. We will meet you where you are at. You will be learning much more than just the asana postures. If you are ready to transform your mind, body, and life then you are ready to join us on the course!

Is the Santosha 200 Hour Yoga course suitable for me if I have been practising yoga for a long time?

Experience is an asset that will help during the Yoga Teacher Training. Even as an experienced yogi, you are sure to learn something new! You will be taught how to teach yoga authentically, how to modify and adapt poses to suit the individual needs of your students, how to use breath appropriately, and more. Your yoga practice will expand in a beautiful way.

Like yoga itself, this course goes far beyond physical practice into the philosophy and history of yoga and into deeper practices you may not have had the opportunity to access in general yoga classes. This is a deeply connected mentally and spiritually rewarding yoga journey from our heart to yours, that all levels will deeply benefit from attending.

Can I join even if I have injuries?

At Santosha, we believe that yoga is for everybody and all bodies; and therefore we teach safe and sustainable practices for all yogis. You don’t need a perfect, injury-free body to be a yoga teacher, or to join our Yoga Teacher Training course. Yoga teachers who have had injuries themselves are often better at being aware of student’s limitations with flexibility or mobility and keeping them safe.

Instead of thinking of your injuries as a hindrance to yoga teaching, realise they can be an asset to your awareness and understanding as a yoga teacher. You can successfully participate in the Yoga Teacher Training and go on to teach yoga using modifications and alternate postures. When you sign up for the Yoga Teacher Training, we will ask you about injuries so that your teachers can ensure you’re looked after in live yoga classes. Our teachers are trained to gauge student limitations and prioritise safety.

Can I join the yoga course even if I feel nervous about teaching?

Yes, of course! It’s normal to feel hesitant about starting something new. Many of our students come into the Yoga Teacher Training feeling fear of teaching, public speaking, or doing something new. On our Santosha Yoga Teacher Trainings we take care to create a supportive and accepting space like no other you have experienced. We’ll work with you where you’re at to help you build the confidence and skills you’ll need to share what you have learned (if that’s your goal).

I am older and cannot do all the postures. Can I still join the yoga training?

At Santosha, we believe that yoga is for all ages and all bodies – and that your practice should meet you where you are at. It’s no problem if you cannot access certain postures. There is no age barrier to access the incredible benefits of yoga  and sharing them with others through yoga teaching! We are getting an increasing number of students joining us in their 50s, 60s, and beyond on the Yoga Teacher Training – and we hope to see more!

I am not that flexible, can I still join the yoga training?

Our philosophy is that there is no “one size fits all yoga.” Yoga should fit your body, not the other way around. Some people may never get into particular postures because of genetics, injury or other factors, but this does not hinder your ability to share and teach yoga. If you are practising and teaching with attention and intention following the foundational principles of yoga which you learn on the course, it does not matter if you can form every shape perfectly.

I’m pregnant – can I still attend the yoga course?

While it’s possible to complete the Yoga Teacher Training course while pregnant, we ask that decision be made in consultation with your doctor. Only they can advise if this yoga course  is right for you. All pregnant students must provide medical clearance in the form of a certificate on the first day of the Yoga Teacher Training and email us upon enrolment to formulate an individual pregnancy plan to keep you (and your baby!) safe and comfortable during your time with us on the Santosha Yoga Teacher Training. Please inform teachers on your yoga training course about any physical issues arising from your pregnancy so they can best assist and support you.

How proficient do I need to be at yoga to join the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training?

During the Level 1 Yoga Teacher Training program you will have asana (yoga postures)  practice every day. We recommend that students have some form of an asana practice and are comfortable joining us in a daily practice. Remember, this course is not only meant for aspiring teachers, it’s also for people who want a deeper understanding and take their practice to a more advanced level. An advanced practitioner is not necessarily one who can move deeply into advanced postures; it is someone who comes to the mat with a level of maturity, a willingness to learn, and an understanding of their own body.

Do I have to wait until the start date to begin learning and practicing yoga?

You can start your yoga training from the minute you sign up! We give both our online and in-person yoga students access to all the comprehensive online course materials – video modules, classes, handouts and specialised teaching manuals which give you all you need to begin your Santosha yoga journey.

How do I claim my free 50 Hour Training?

As our gift to you all our Level 1 200 Hour  students receive one free short online course – your choice of Yin Yoga, Pre + Post Natal Yoga, Meditation or Kids + Teens Yoga training – to add to your skills and increase your options for yoga teaching upon graduation with extra in demand modalities. We suggest you complete this after your Level 1 Yoga Course. You just need to email us when you are ready with your choice of short yoga course and we will send through your bonus course log-in.

Can I view your Terms and Conditions?

Yes, you can view our full terms and conditions and payment policies here.

I feel a bit nervous about doing this course. Should I still do it?

Yes! This probably means you are ready to step into something new but you just need that extra encouragement to make the next brave step. We are here to offer this to you! You are welcome to email, call or WhatsApp us and let us know about anything standing in the way of following your dreams, and we can happily provide extra support – both before and during your time with us on the Yoga Teacher Training – in a way that best suits YOUR individual nature and strengths

Why should I choose Santosha for my 200-hour yoga teacher training journey?

SANTSOHA BALI YOGA TEACHER TRAINING FAQS

Bali Location and Travel FAQS

Where is the Bali Yoga Teacher Training location?

Our shala is located on the peaceful tropical island of Nusa Lembongan, an easy 30-minute boat trip from mainland Bali. This island offers plenty of amazing ocean activities, including SUP yoga in crystal clear waters, world-class diving and snorkelling with Mantas, and excellent surf breaks. Or, you can relax and soak up the famous sunsets from a comfy bean-bag at our awesome on-site cafe.

How do I reach Nusa Lembongan and where do I stay?

We provide you with a comprehensive Accommodation + Travel Guide that offers guidance on how to reach the island in a door-to-door package trip by ferry and shuttle so you can easily reach the site from the airport without any stress.

The guide also offers many great accommodation options for any budget, including luxury poolside bungalows and affordable family-run guesthouses, and our inclusive accommodation options.

Do we get time off to enjoy the beach and surrounding islands in Bali?

There will be plenty of free time to relax, surf, snorkel, swim, and explore. Nusa Lembongan is loved by yogis, divers, and surfers alike and there are so many fun activities to keep you busy. Spend your down time biking, scuba diving, snorkelling with manta rays, kayaking, and more. Ready to relax? Soak up the beautiful beach scenery from one of many beachfront cafes or treat yourself to affordable options for healing and wellbeing, including massage, acupuncture, and beauty therapy.

We are also lucky to have two other stunning islands right next door. Pop over the famous “Yellow Bridge” and you arrive on the small and peaceful island of Nusa Ceningan. Nusa Ceningan is popular for its cliff top sunset views (best from an infinity pool!) , epic surf break and chilled beachfront cafes. Traditional seaweed farming is still the main industry on this island, and it has a laid-back and friendly local vibe.

We highly recommend booking a day tour to Nusa Penida – which includes the boat trip over and a driver to show you the sites. Our students love Nusa Penida for its scenic blue billabong, crystal clear waters, breathtaking cliff-top views and of course the famous Kelingking Secret Point Beach (T-Rex beach)

What is at typical day like on a Bali Yoga Teacher Training?

Each day of the course begins with a sunrise 6am vinyasa yoga class, then after your breakfast break you will be in class until approximately 3pm, with breaks for lunch and snacks. During this time our yoga students attend a mix posture labs, anatomy and physiology classes based on yogic science, vinyasa yoga sequencing study, yoga philosophy sessions, meditation, breathwork and pranayama teaching methodology, practice yoga teaching and groupwork. Finishing early in the day means your afternoon is free for surfing, swimming and relaxing!

Are there any discounts on local activities?

Santosha Yoga Institute has partnered with Thabu Surf, a surf school on Nusa Lembongan that has kindly offered our yoga training students a discount on surf lessons. We also have contacts who can organise a Manta Ray snorkel experience, Nusa Penida or Bali day tour for you. You can ask the Santosha team about this once you’re on our beautiful island – and find lots of new friends who will be keen to join you!

How do I book my Inclusive Accommodation package?

You can easily book your Inclusive Package on our website and we will arrange your stay for you. You will be given the options to choose from one of three buttons:

COURSE ONLY (this is for students who do NOT want the Inclusive Package)

COURSE + SHARED ROOM (click this if you want a Shared Twin Room)

COURSE + PRIVATE ROOM (click this if you want a Garden or Ocean View Room)

We will be in touch once we have your booking to confirm your exact dates (extra nights can be requested) and you will be booked into the room of your choice.

What if Inclusive Accommodation Packages are booked for my dates?

No worries! It is so easy to book your own accommodation on the island from the options we include in our Bali Travel and Accommodation Guide. All are within walking distance from the shala, and are safe, comfortable and clean. You can choose the best option to suit YOUR budget and needs; and booking via WhatsApp or email is a breeze. You can also request assistance with your accommodation – just tick the ‘Accommodation Assistance’ Box at checkout.

How do I book my own accommodation on the island?

You can easily book your own accommodation from the choices we offer in our comprehensive Accommodation + Travel Guide or via booking.com etc. With the budget options on offer this makes our course one of the most affordable yoga teacher training options out there! The Inclusive Accommodation Packages are available for those who would like a little extra help with their accommodation booking.

What if I want to stay extra nights at Santosha@Purinusa?

If you choose the inclusive package, your booking runs from the day before the training begins and ends the morning of your last day. If you wish to stay extra nights at our accommodation we will send a link so you can easily book and pay for your additional nights stay. We will check your exact dates upon receipt of your booking. Please note: if you have booked a shared twin room for your stay, you will need to upgrade to a private room for the additional nights.

I am a male joining you on the Yoga Teacher Training, can I book a shared room?

We welcome everyone to join us for this incredible experience! However, as typically the number of female students tends to outnumber that of males on our course, we currently require males to book a private room if they are joining on an Inclusive Accommodation package. If you are a male and do want to share a twin room, please get in touch with us and we will endeavour to place you with a fellow male yogi – dependent on male numbers.

I want to share a room with a friend who is not on the yoga course. Can I book an Inclusive Package?

Yes, if you wish to share a room with a partner or friend who is not attending the course you are welcome to choose the Private Room Inclusive Accommodation package and have your friend join you in the private room at no extra cost. If twin beds rather than the King Bed are required, please let us know after you have booked the course, so we can arrange with Santosha@PuriNusa for you.

Is It better to stay at Santosha@Purinusa or choose my own accommodation?

This is entirely up to you! Some students love the simplicity of having us organise their stay, and many appreciate the savings that come from sharing a twin room.  Others like the idea of the other options we suggest and would prefer to arrange their own stay there, or simply prefer the flexibility of options that making their own booking offers.

Where can I eat in Nusa Lembongan?

We are incredibly lucky to host an on-site cafe (Ginger & Jamu) run by a chef and Santosha graduate that serves a delicious selection of healthy, hearty meals and snacks created with love. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free students will love the care and attention lavished on creating meals that suit all dietary needs. When you enrol, you will get information about flexible meal packages available to our students. There are also several local restaurants, hotels, cafes, shops, fresh food markets, and warungs (local cheap eateries) suited to all budgets and within a 5-minute walk.

How do I book the Ginger + Jamu meal packages?

Meal Packages are so easy to book on the first day of your training, directly with the cafe. The cafe team will come to the shala and take bookings on day one.

I would rather make my own dining decisions, can I eat off-site?

Of course! We would love to see you in the cafe, but you are welcome to eat at one of the many wonderful local options nearby to our shala.

I am vegan – are there places to eat in Nusa Lembongan?

Yes, very much so! Our onsite cafe Ginger + Jamu has many tasty vegan options. There are some good vegan spots on the island and nearby our shala. Bali Eco Deli nearby also has vegan options.

I am gluten free – are there places to eat on Nusa Lembongan?

Yes, our onsite cafe Ginger + Jamu has many tasty GF options. Bali Eco Deli and other cafes nearby also have GF options. Some local dishes are also naturally GF, though watch for sneaky ingredients like soy sauce.

How much do meals cost on Nusa Lembongan?

If you budget well and eat local, you can spend as little as $10 AUD ($7 USD) a day on meals, which over 21 days would be $210 AUD ($150 USD). Note this would be simple local food and not include alcoholic beverages, lattes or fancy meals out!

Do I need a visa to get into Bali?

That answer depends on your nationality, but citizens of over 70 countries (including Australia, NZ, UK, USA, Canada, and Germany) are eligible for a 30-day Visa-on-Arrival. This means you don’t need to pre-arrange anything before you arrive. To check if your country is eligible for Visa-on-Arrival please visit the Visa Requirements Page on Bali.com for the most up-to-date information.

How do I get to Bali?

You will fly into Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) also known as Denpasar International Airport.

How do I book flights to Bali?

To book your flights, you can use sites such as Flyus.com, Skyscanner or Webjet to look for flight deals. We recommend looking for deals here and then booking them directly on the airline’s website for less fees and the ability to communicate directly with the airline. If you do not feel confident booking flights yourself, then contact a local Travel Agency such as Flight Centre who can easily find you a stellar deal.

For Australian students we have a Travel Agent who can work with you to book the best flights, contact us for her details.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes! You will need valid travel insurance to be able to apply for your visa and to enter Bali. We also require travel insurance for you to join us on the course.

How do I get travel insurance?

You can easily organise travel insurance through your existing insurance company (if you have one), your bank, your airline, your travel agent or online at sites such as World Nomads. You must organise travel insurance before you leave for Bali, as you cannot obtain travel insurance once your travels have begun.
