About Santosha Yoga 300 Hour Courses
Santosha’s Level Two Advanced Yoga Teacher Trainings are held only in India. Why? Because we believe that such a deeply delving, multifaceted spiritual journey should be undertaken on sacred land. By holding our advanced trainings in India, we go straight to the source of our yogic lineage and have an opportunity to connect spiritually, physically, culturally, and intellectually to the roots of our practice.
Santosha has chosen the perfect location for the Level Two courses. An Ashram in Vridavan in Northern India is the location and here students can attend the Holi Festival and undergo Ayurvedic courses extracurricularly.
Santosha’s Level Two course includes a mix of Vinyasa, Vini Yoga, Iyengar, Hatha, Ashtanga yoga and with a strong emphasis on Yoga Therapy. Santosha believes that students of yoga must be aware of their own bodies strenghts and limitations and thus practice accordingly, so they may transfer this understanding to their students.
The course offers a comprehensive, intensive and practical training in how to teach yoga on a level that extends from the 200hr + further refines your practice so you may come to a deeper knowledge of Yoga.
A level 2 comprehensive training manual is provided for each student on the training. Students that successfully complete the level 2 training, and who have attended a Level One 200 Hour may wish to individually register with Yoga Alliance (fee applies). Details can be obtained from their website www.yogaalliance.org
We are a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with Yoga Alliance at both the 200 and 300 hour level – which means students can apply for their 500 Hour RYT certificate with Yoga Alliance. There are no extra hours outside of the training after the YTT has completed, all hours are done prior to (if chosen) or during the course.
Pre-requisites:
Level 1, 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Certificate (for those who wish to acquire the 500hr Teaching Certificate) or a genuine, mature interest in deepening one’s practice (for those who are not interested in a Teacher Training Certificate), a desire to expand your yoga knowledge and make a change in the world!
We welcome experienced practitioners who would like to further their skills in teaching yoga and yoga students who would simply like to deepen their own yoga practice. As such, these programs are open to all interested and sincere students, whether they are teaching or not.
Santosha’s Level Two YTT is open to students of all levels, including:
- Graduates of Santosha’s Level One, 200 hr YTT
- Graduates of other Level One 200hr YTTs.
Students who have not completed any type of training course but have a genuine interest in the subject matter. This level of course requires maturity and commitment. For these students the courses will not be credited toward the 500-hour level, but they will serve to deepen growth and understanding.
Why undertake a YTT 300 with Santosha?
The courses have practical value (i.e., increasing one’s teaching qualification), but their real purpose is to bring the student deeper in their understanding of yoga, (and therefore their own lives), through direct personal experience and practical knowledge. Yoga Therapy forms the focus of our coursees and necessitates the understanding that Yoga must be applied uniquely to suit each individual. Therefore we do not teach ‘clone yoga’ but rather we teach our students to understand their bodies and then apply the asanas that are needed in order to restore harmony and balance.
Santosha seeks to provide the most versatile yoga training possible. We employ experts in each area of study to offer their refined teachings. The depth and breadth of Santosha’s YTTs creates a focused learning environment charged with energy and enthusiasm. By immersing yourself in this environment, you open yourself up to discovering paths for personal development and metamorphosis.
Santosha’s Level Two, 300 Hour, Course Specifics
The journey of a yogi is a path that allows us to be perpetual students, whether teaching or not. If we are truly following the eight Limb path then we must adhere to the fist two limbs, being Yama and Niyama – the ethical precepts set forth in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Yama and Niyama are the foundation of our practice without which no spiritual progress along the path of yoga can be made. Many people come to yoga initially as a physical exercise and only later begin to understand the profound spiritual effect it has on our lives. But to establish these spiritual effects firmly upon our mindstream, to embed them within our consciousness, they must be grounded on the bedrock of ethical behavior.
Our practice begins with Yama and Niyama, and extends into asana and the other limbs of yoga. Therefore – a teacher or one who is on a deeper path must engage in ongoing study, Brahmacharya as set forth in Patanjalis yoga Sutras, as well as cultivate growth in his or her daily practice. Yoga retreats and workshops, away from your daily routines, are also beneficial because you have time to focus, you can learn new concepts or practices and you have time to focus if you are taken out of life’s daily chores.
The deeper we understand who we are, the more our light will shine for others. All of Santosha’s teachers take time to study, to be inspired, and to grow. Studying allows an individual to stay connected to the teachings, and continue to be open and to maintain a beginners mind.
Even if you do not teach, allowing time to look within, in a focused way, is the key to growth.
With this in mind, Santosha will offer a variety of courses including the Level Two 300 Hour YTT to allow those spiritual seekers to travel within in supportive knowledgeable settings. Some of our courses we are and will offer in 2012 include:
- Post + Pre Natal + Childrens + Teen Yoga Teaching Certificate
- Core Strenthening + the Breath
- Yoga Thai Massage
- Meditation and The states of the Mind
- Kirtan a closer look at the healing sound
- Five Element Teacher Trainings
- Yoga Therapy + Self Observation
- Yoga Anatomy – a simple understanding
Ayurveda and Massage are also a part of our Yoga Teacher Trainings as we believe these hours allow the student to connect to their students more holistically and have a greater anatomical and constitutional understanding of self and students.
Other modules on the training include: meditation, pranayama, adjusting skills, prop usage, practical teaching, self awareness, yoga business, yoga philosophy, anatomy & physiology and yoga therapy, Kirtan and Chanting, the sutras, Bandhas, Kriyas, asana knowledge, ayurvedic principles, Kundalina Yoga and the Chakras, yoga massage, pre and post natal yoga, childrens and teen yoga and more.
The morning asana practice is included in all of the above courses and within the Level 2 300 hr course. Pranayama will be introduced to new students, while returning students will continue to build on their personal practice. The point is to focus on practices and to deliver new knowledge in anatomy and physiology, philosophy, and other related areas.
The Level 2 300hr course offers a comprehensive, intensive and practical training in how to teach yoga and how to further refine your practice.
A level 2 comprehensive training manual is provided for each student on the training. Students that successfully complete the level 2 training, and who have attended a Level One 200 Hour may wish to individually register with Yoga Alliance (fee applies). Details can be obtained from their website www.yogaalliance.org
