Welcome Circle and Day One

What time should I get to the island and when does the course start on Day One?

- Our 2019 Level 1 RYT-200 Trainings start at 11:00am on Day One

Please organise your travel so you will be in the island and ready to begin your studies at 11am on the first day of your training.

Most students arrive the day before so they have time to settle into their accommodation and find their bearings etc.

What if I cannot get to the island the night before my course begins?

If you are not on the island by the night before your training you can still catch the morning boat across from Sanur (first D'Camel Boat leaves at 9:30 and arrives Lembongan at 10am) you may need to head directly to the Welcome Circle with your bags and then settle in your room later on! But you will still have plenty of time to make it across and in the first meeting at 11am.

What time should I leave the island and when does the course finish on the last day?

The Level 1 RYT-200 course ends at 5:30pm on the last day - and most students get together somewhere special afterwards for a celebratory meal and goodbye.

As boats do not leave in the evening, you will want to plan to leave the island the morning after the last day - or you may choose to stay a few extra days and attend our extra PPNCT or Yin Yoga trainings.

What should I bring to the 11am Welcome Circle on Day One?

- Signed and Printed Student Agreement

- Pen + paper/ notebook

- No yoga gear needed today – just comfortable clothes for sitting

- Payment for any Manuals orders

Student Agreement
 - This MUST be handed in at the Welcome Circle as a physical printed copy; we must have it before you can attend

When can I see our course Schedule
?

- Your schedule will be emailed to you 5 days before your training begins and also will be on the wall outside the shala. Please bear in mind this is a living breathing document! Changes may occur organically during the course, we will keep you informed of anything that arises.

What if I would like to order Printed Manuals?

We will send an email about the option to order Printed Manuals 10 days before your training begins – please wait and do not email prior to this. If you ordered printed manuals staff will be at the Welcome Circle to hand these out and take payment. Please have your local currency or $AU ready. No money, no manual!

When can I find out about extending my Visa?

If you have chosen to extend the paid Visa you will be given the give you the name of the Agent to contact at the Welcome Circle, then it is up to you to organise your extension process
- We recommend you co-ordinate this as a group – chose one point of contact to email / contact agent as a group

Health and Safety

What Vaccines do I need for the trip?
As we are not doctors, we prefer to refer to those who are for this question - the below link advice from Travel Doctor is a good place to start. If you find you still have any concerns, please chat to your doctor or a travel doctor in your area.

https://www.traveldoctor.com.au/destinations/bali

Do I need Malaria tablets in Bali?
Like the rest of Bali  Nusa Lemongan is officially a Malaria free area. However anti malarials may be necessary if you are traveling to other parts of Indonesia, so please consult with your doctor beforehand if you plan to do this - or if you have any doubts concerning your travels.

Are there Mosquitoes in Bali and Sri Lanka?
Yes, like most tropical countries Bali and Srti Lanka do have mosquitoes!  The most effective mosquito repellents contain DEET. Repel Tropical Strength repellents contain 30-40% DEET which is considered optimum for adults. There is a local product - Sofitel - which is as effective insect repellent, otherwise bring your own. More information and tips here:
https://www.traveldoctor.com.au/diseases/insect-borne-diseases

Make sure to:
- Cover arms and legs with light coloured clothing in the evening when mosquitoes are most present
- Use mosquito spray (over not under sunscreen)
- Keep doors closed in the evening or sleep under a mosquito net if available

What is the best way to avoid illness?
With getting sick, it can happen but most likely won't if you follow some simple guidelines. The most common illness is "Travel Belly" - basically upset stomach or travellers' diarrhoea. Caused by a change in diet and lifestyle, the symptoms generally include:

  • Abdominal bloating, cramps and pain
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Urgency/frequency in going to the toilet
  • Diarrhoea
  • Mild temperature
  • General malaise (weakness or discomfort)

Sometimes caused by bacteria found in local foods or drinking water but most often caused by an increase in exotic foods, too much food or an increase in alcohol intake, Travel Belly is treatable and will usually clear itself up sometimes within 24 hours, other times is may take a couple of days or even up to a week.

The best way to avoid this it is:
- Drink and brush teeth with bottled water only
- Eat mainly onsite - or at restaurants that have western hygiene standards (eg. food not sitting around in sun, etc)
- Rest on your days off and in breaks - don't push yourself too hard
- Wash hands regularly and use sanitized hand gel
- Pack anti-nausea medication (ask your doctor or chemist) or activated charcoal and take at first sign of stomach upset
- Also bring hydralyte so if you do get sick you can avoid dehydration and you will recover much faster - http://www.hydralyte.com.au/
- Coconut water and 'Pocari Sweat' also contain electrlytes, so are a good local alternate to hydralyte
- Don't stress too much, you probably will not get sick and if you do it will quickly pass - especially if you follow the above 🙂

I have an injury, will I be okay to attend?
As long as you work to your own level - resting whenever you need - and let the teachers know if any health issues arise, then you will have no trouble with the classes. We have had injured students complete the training many times. We find that these students actually do better, as they end up having a greater understanding of working within the limitations and considerations of the individual's body.

However, it is your responsibility to:
- Let all your teachers know (we give them a list of injuries but it helps to remind them)
- Follow all modifications given and speak up if pain or discomfort still persists and further assistance/ modification is needed
- Rest when needed, and take breaks during class rather than push through any pain/ discomfort
- Communicate any changes in your condition

Please inform us as soon as you can with regards to any injuries. Our teachers are trained to take injuries into account and will teach accordingly, but the more warning we have the more information we can gather to best assist you. It is also your job to speak up and let your asana (and postures) teacher informed if conditions worsen or change.

As long as you work to your own level - resting whenever you need - and let the teachers know if any health issues arise, then you will have no trouble with the classes. We have had injured and pregnant students complete the training many times. We find that injured students actually do better, as they end up having a greater understanding of working within the limitations and considerations of the individual's body.

Is the tap water safe for drinking in Bali and Sri Lanka?
No, please bring your own refillable water bottle for drinking and brushing teeth. There is filtered water available for a small cost from cafes including Ginger and Jamu - if you bring a refillable water bottle this can be filled everyday and avoid the use of plastic single use water bottles.

Injuries and Illness - Physical

Please contact Santosha prior to the training if any concerns arise due to illness or injuries. We need to be informed so we can best assist and support you during the training.

Injuries and Illness - Psychological/ Emotional Health

Please contact Santosha immediately upon registering for the training if you have experienced of the below conditions:

  • Childhood Trauma

  • Stressful events or life-changes
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Chronic or Persistent Pain
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Eating Disorders
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder

We are happy for you to join us on the training, but for your own safety ask that you provide:

- confirmation you are connected to your psychiatrist / psychologist and are able to contact them if necessary during the training

- medical clearance to attend the training

As we are on an isolated island with limited medical facilities we need to ensure the safety of our students during their time with us. Although our teachers are supportive and caring individuals, they are not trained psychiatrists or psychologists and are not qualified to give support beyond theusual stresses that come up during our student's time. We need to know there is a professional who you are able to ask for additional support beyond the capabilities of our teachers if need be.

We are 100% committed to protecting our students safety and need to make sure that you will have access to the support you need during your time together with us on the island 🙂

I am pregnant, can I still attend?
It is possible to complete the course while pregnant, but we ask that the decision is made only with the consultation and full support of your doctor. Only they can advise if this is the best course of action for you. All pregnant students must provide medical clearance via a medical certificate on the first day of the training and email Santosha upon enrollment to formulate an individual pregnancy plan to best keep you (and baby!) safe and comfortable during your time with Santosha. You must keep teachers advised of any physical ailments or issues arising from your pregnancy, so they can best assist and support you when needed.

Note for late arrivals: If you arrive in Bali in the evening, you will need to stay overnight in Sanur as boats do not leave at night. There are many cheap hotels, starting from approx 250.000 IDR/ $25 AUD
We recommend booking.com for ease of booking your overnight stay if necessary.

3. Catch boat from Sanur to Nusa Lembongan (approx 20 minutes)

What time should I get to the island and when does the course start on Day 1?
- Our 2019 Level 1 RYT-200 Trainings start at 11:00am on Day One

Please organise your travel so you will be in the island and ready to begin your studies at 11am on the first day of your training.

Most students arrive the day before so they have time to settle into their accommodation and find their bearings etc. If you catch the morning boat across from Sanur (first DCamel Boat leaves at 9:30 and arrives Lembongan at 10am) you may need to head directly to the Welcome Circle with your bags and then settle in your room later on! But you will still have plenty of time to make it across and in the first meeting at 11am 🙂

What time should I leave the island and when does the course finish on Day 25?
The Level 1 RYT-200 course ends at 5:30pm on Day 25 - and most students get together somewhere special afterwards for a celebratory meal and goodbye. As boats do not leave in the evening, you will want to plan to leave the island the morning after the last day - or you may choose to stay a few extra days and attend our extra PPNCT or SUP training... or just relax! Whatever your choice, make sure if you plan to stay longer than 3o days you have an extended Visa (see Visa and Passports FAQ for more on this)

How do I book flights?
Flyus.com is a good site to look for flight deals. We recommend looking for deals here and then booking them directly on the airline's website (to avoid Flyus fees) If you do not feel confident booking flights yourself, then contact your local Travel Agency such as Flight Centre.

How do I book Travel Insurance?
All Santosha student must have travel insurance. You can organise this through either:
- Your existing insurance company (if you have one)
- Your Bank
- Your Airline
- Your Travel Agent
- Online at a company such as World Nomads: https://www.worldnomads.com/travel-insurance/

Is the tap water safe for drinking?
No, please bring your own refillable water bottle for drinking and brushing teeth. There is filtered water available for a small cost from cafes including Ginger and Jamu - if you bring a refillable water bottle this can be filled everyday and avoid the use of plastic single use water bottles.

What Plug will I need for Bali?

In Bali and Indonesia you can expect the 2 pin socket and plug as used in larger parts of Europe. The pins are round, not flat or rectangular. If you come from Australia, Japan, USA, Malaysia, UK, Canada, Singapore, and some countries in Africa you will most likely simply need a plug adapter otherwise the plugs for your electrical appliances will not fit into the "Bali Socket", although the voltage should be o.k.

You can get those at all international airports and once you are in Bali, they can be found in the many small shops in Nusa Lembongan for a few dollars. More info here: https://www.bali.com/sockets-plugs-electricity-voltage.html

Visa and Passports - Bali

What do I need for travel to Bali?
- Valid Passport with at least 6 months before expiry
- Visa (can be obtained on arrival)

How do I get the Visa I need?
This information will depend on whether you wish to stay less than 30 days or more than 30 days.

Less than 30 days:
Most visitors to Bali staying less than 30 Days can get a Free Visa Waiver (exemption) on arrival - meaning they pay $0 and do not have to pre-arrange anything.
Please check the link below if your country is listed under the 140 countries that have this visa exemption. If so, then you only need to worry about your length of stay. Below 30 days is no problem. If your country is not listed then you need to apply for a Visa with an Indonesian Embassy or consulate abroad (outside of Indonesia).
https://www.bali.com/visa-indonesia-entry-requirements-bali.html

Make sure to pay closer attention to the date of your stay and ensure it is 30 days or less. Currently the overstay fee is 300,000 IDR (approx $30 AUD) per day - will soon increase to 1.000.000 IDR per day (approx $100 AUD).

More than 30 days:

If you plan to stay more than 30 days, then you have 2 options:
1. Apply for a 60 Day Visa before leaving for Bali
2. Purchase a paid 30 Day Visa  (not free Visa Waiver) on Arrival when you arrive in Bali, and then extend it a further 30 days once there.

1. Applying for a 60 Day Visa before leaving for Bali
If you want to stay longer than one month we strongly recommend you pre-arrange a 60 Day Visa before leaving for Bail through a Travel Agent or Agent in Bali such as:
http://visaforbali.com/service/social-visa-b-211-extension
https://www.facebook.com/Visaandtouristinformation/

Google: ’60 Day Visa Indonesia + [your country] to obtain the specific details of obtaining this Visa. Many students have found that their Travel Agent (eg. Flight Centre) was able to assist with the process, making it much easier and stress free. We advise doing this.

Here some info on the process from a British perspective (requirements applicable to all countries):
http://www.neverendingvoyage.com/60-day-indonesia-tourist-visa-london-embassy/

Here is an Australian site with some further info:
http://www.aiav.org.au/travel-tips

Being an Australian company, Santosha cannot provide sponsorship for this - but this Bali company can help you with sponsorship for Visas: http://baliviza.com/sponsorship-letter

2. Extending a Paid 30 Day Visa
Please note: if you wish to extend your visa you must get a paid $35 USD Visa on arrival. Do not accept the free visa as it is not available for extension. Once you have purchased your 30 Day Visa (not the free Visa) upon arrival for $35 USD then you go to class one immigration (near airport) to apply and extend for the remaining 30 days.

Zando Consulant can assist with Visa Extension:
https://www.facebook.com/Zando-Consultants-293495140755831/

Or do it yourself:
https://www.vilondo.com/bali-travel-guide/how-to-extend-your-30-day-visa-in-bali/

To extend your visa on arrival you will need:
- a copy of your passport
- your flight details
- Visa upon arrival - paid
- departure card

For the immigration department when you apply. You may need to spend some time visiting the Visa office on your day off – be prepared for travel to Denpasar. Bali and long waiting time if you chose to extend. It will take at least one day of your time in Bali to visit the office.

Most students who wish to extend their Visa do this in a group once on the island
This is how the process goes:
The current fee for extension is 750,000 IDR and you will get a 1-month extension. Express option -1,350,000 IDR  (note: this may change - this is beyond our control)
You will get it done in two weeks - does not include Saturday and Sunday. It might be ready before your visa expires, depending on the time you give the passport.

How to do it:
1. Put your passport and payment inside the closed envelope (Welcome Circle) and write your name, email and phone number (for Whatsapp if it's available)
2
. Call the agent:
 Putu +62 812-4639-9639 (Whatsapp)
E-mail: [email protected]
3. After you have decided when and where to meet up, she will pick up the passport(s) and let you know in 4-5 workdays when you need to come to the Immigration Office for the photo and fingerprints.
4. Make sure you arrange the trip nicely. Book your ferry ticket and book the driver to take you there and back.
You can call this good man to drive you: Fauzi +62 817-9719-543 (he is also on Whatsapp)
It is safe to keep the passports with the agent. Either way, you can set up the best way how to pick up the passport when you are on the mainland again.

Sample of Paid Visa on Arrival:

The red circle is the sticker you will get when you buy VOA (USD 35) at the check-in. That green stamp is MANDATORY TO HAVE. Valid for 30 days.

The green circle is the extended visa (one time only), with the Extension Stamp, which makes it valid for another 30 days.

Please make cop(ies) of your passport just in case you will need it.
